Professional and Collegial Competencies
The Inter-University PhD in Educational Studies: Doctoral Student Handbook explains that artifacts in this category require students to "demonstrate a range of professional competencies" as evidence of their active professional engagement (Inter-University Doctoral Administrative Committee, 2021, p. 35). There are two artifacts in the competency category. The first is my curriculum vitae (CV), which includes information about my educational background, research, professional development, and experiences. The second is a research proposal that I submitted to the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) to fund my research study. The artifacts in this category demonstrate how I have met the stated requirements.
The eighth artifact is my Curriculum Vitae (CV), explaining my professional work, research, and academic achievements. I chose this artifact because it fits this category, discusses my academic accomplishments and work experiences as a nurse and an educator, though my journey of lifelong long learning.
This artifact is a research proposal that I submitted to the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) for funding. The title of the was Bridging the Gap: NCLEX-RN® Success Disparities Among Ontario Universities. I chose this artifact because the application required me to demonstrate my academic and professional competencies and preparedness to engage in scholarly research. Additionally, I was in the early stages of honing my research question, and I was eager to learn about this experience. The research proposal describes my proposed research study and includes a literature review, my methodology, methods for participants recruitment, data collection and analysis. I also discussed the expected contributions of my research study. All this information was written concisely on two pages with a separate page for the bibliography. Although I did not receive funding on my first attempt, this experience prepared me with the knowledge, skills and abilities that can help me apply for other research grants.
